The Client: Minnesota Department of Transportation

The Challenge: Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) had two massive PowerPoints documenting the knowledge and experience of their department experts, Bituminous and Concrete Repair. They needed to make the information accessible to supervisors out in the field and as well as on the web.

The Solution: Using Articulate Storyline 360 I converted the PowerPoint information creating a web-ready document that:

Here is a video clip showing many of the features that are available with the web-accessible version.

You can view the Bituminous Knowledge Book on the MnDOT website. (The Concrete Repair Book is currently being developed.)

Develop Interactive Learning Modules for New Employees

Center for Business and Industry logo Top ⇪

Client: The Center for Business and Industry (CBI) - South Central College

Challenge: Tanja Stading with CBI had established a grant with the Minnesota and Economic Development to create contextual learning modules training new employees on the basic concepts used in manufacturing.

Other criteria included:

Worksheet used in classroom for using a ruler
Here is one of the worksheets supplied by the subject matter expert. Drill Bits and How to Use Them A Word document

Solution: Working with the subject matter experts, we came up with seven topics:

  1. Measuring - Using the US Imperial measurement system
  2. Diameter, Degrees, and RPM
  3. Precision Measuring - Using a micrometer and a caliper
  4. Using Drill Bits
  5. Using Power Tools
  6. Reading Blueprints - Blueprint basics and using GD&T
  7. Basic Machines - Being aware of the lever, ramp, wheel, screw, pulley, and the wedge.

Each module was developed using RISE giving a consistent user interface. Interactive exercises were imported into RISE after being created using Articulate Storyline 360.

I wrote the script and recorded the English narrations for each slide. The script was translated into Spanish and a second narration was recorded. A duplicate module was created with the Spanish narration.

Benjamin Rose SHARE for Dementia logo Top ⇪

The Solution: Met with the development team on a weekly basis via Zoom. As the designer and SME completed the storyboard (using PowerPoint) for each section, I created the final course materials using Articulate Storyline and published the course to Moodle.

The course included several videos, showing various situations that a counselor might encounter. The videos paused at specific points, posing a question to the learner before proceeding. This made the video experience more interactive and allowed the learner to form strategies on their own before the video showed one possible option.

Several activities, developed in Articulate Storyline, were used by the counselors after the course to help couples make decisions about their lifestyle, roles, and when to request support services as their relationship changed due to the disease.
